Private equity deal origination: proprietary deal sourcing

Founder conversations outside the auction. We build thesis-driven lists of owners for your platforms and add-ons, work them by phone and email every month, and book the intro calls with your deal team.

Every fund says it wants proprietary deal flow. Very few have anyone whose actual job is to call founders all day. Business development hires are expensive, hard to keep, and the first thing that stalls when a deal is closing. Outsourcing the top of the funnel fixes the one part of sourcing that is purely about volume and consistency. Our founder has been generating deal flow this way since 2018.

How thesis-driven sourcing works

You give us the thesis: sector, size, geography, ownership profile, and whether we are hunting new platforms or add-ons for a portfolio company. We build a list of the owners who fit, not a list of companies, and work it every month. The caller introduces the fund (or the portfolio company, for add-ons), explains why the business is interesting, and books an intro call with your deal team when the founder is open to it.

Your team runs the conversation from there: the story, the NDA, the data request, the structure. We never discuss valuation or terms on your behalf.

Platforms and add-ons

New platforms

  • Founder-owned companies that match the fund thesis
  • Owners who have never run a process and may never list
  • Intro calls with a partner or principal

Add-ons for portfolio companies

  • Tuck-in targets by geography, capability or customer base
  • Outreach in the portfolio company's name, with their CEO looped in
  • Calls booked with the corp dev lead or the deal team

The campaign

  1. Thesis to criteria. Sector, revenue or EBITDA range, geography, ownership, and what disqualifies a target.
  2. List. A fresh list of 1,200 to 1,500 owners every month, direct mobile and verified email where available, DNC-scrubbed.
  3. Outreach. A dedicated caller with a voicemail on every pass, managed email on a 3-touch cadence, interested replies called back, typically the next business day.
  4. Intro calls. Booked live onto your deal team's calendar, confirmed the same day, with notes on the owner and the business. CRM integration included.
  5. Review. Weekly reporting, a dedicated account manager, a bi-weekly review to sharpen the thesis against what founders are actually saying.

The volume behind it

1,200 to 1,500verified owners on a fresh list every month
4,000 to 6,000dials a month once the campaign is live
3,600+emails a month on a 3-touch cadence
2 to 3 weekstypical setup after onboarding

Frequently asked questions

Is this buy-side only?

For funds, yes: we source founders who fit your thesis and book the intro call. The same system runs sell-side origination for M&A advisors and investment banks, on their own pages.

Can you source add-ons in a portfolio company's name?

Yes. For add-on campaigns the outreach goes out in the portfolio company's name, with their CEO or corp dev lead in the loop, and calls get booked with whoever you designate.

How do you pitch a founder who is not for sale?

We do not pitch a sale. The call is about why a fund that invests in their space found the business interesting and whether they would take a short, confidential call to hear more. Curiosity books calls; pressure ends them.

What does your fee look like next to a BD hire?

A flat monthly fee per campaign, month to month, no success fee or closing fee. It typically comes in well under the fully loaded cost of one business development hire, and it is running within two to three weeks instead of a quarter.

How many intro calls should we expect?

It depends on the thesis and how tight the criteria are, and we do not guarantee a number. We commit to the volume, the quality of the conversation, and a bi-weekly review. Funds with a clear thesis and a deal team that takes calls promptly do best.

Do you sign an NDA?

Yes. We treat your thesis, your portfolio plans and your target lists as confidential, and we are happy to sign your standard NDA before onboarding.
